Learn how to clean carpet with bed bugs.
-Video Transcript-
So I’m going to lay down diatomaceous earth all over the carpet. I’m going to just put a light dusting around and I’m not going to worry about covering every inch of the carpet. What this is going to do is if there happen to be any bed bugs around, this will help kill them. Diatomaceous earth, we go into it a lot more in step 4, but it doesn’t immediately kill bed bugs. However, it does help to weaken them and eventually kill them. So, we’re just laying this around to get any bed bugs and when we do our vacuuming, we’ll be vacuuming up the diatomaceous earth. Any bed bugs that we catch will mix with the diatomaceous earth in the vacuum cleaner bag will help make sure that any bed bugs die.
After our first vacuuming run where we vacuum up all of the diatomaceous earth, we’re going to want to vacuum a second time. This is just in an abundance of caution. Remember with vacuuming, we’re not immediately killing the bed bugs; we’re mechanically removing them from the carpet. So just in an abundance of caution, we’re going to do it again.
And so the last thing we’re going to do is use a carpet shampooer to go over the carpet again and shampoo the carpet. Now again, just like the vacuum cleaner, this isn’t going to actually kill the bed bugs. It’s going to help mechanically remove them if there are any bed bugs left. Hopefully we got everything with our vacuuming but just in an abundance of caution, we’re going to use the carpet shampooer.
